Over the past twenty years, Drake has fostered a close connection with young adult readers as a teacher and study skills coach.

His book, Middle School Study Skills (1996) has sold across the U.S., and his related newspaper column for the Idaho Falls Post Register ran from 2001 to 2002.

More recently, his young adult chapter book, What Not to Do When You Find a Spaceship, sold over 200 copies at three Atlanta book festivals in 2009 and has many young readers asking for the sequel.

Drake regularly visits local elementary and middle schools to promote his new book and help young students discover the joy of reading.
